Adalias Biography
Born in Northern Va., Adalia began her performance career at the age of 9 singing in talent shows and other social events.
After years of performing as a singer Adalia went to college to study music with a major in voice performance. After her 2nd year and taking the Myer’s Briggs personality test, Adalia changed her major to Music Therapy.
She went on to finish her Bachelor’s and later her Master’s in Music therapy at Shenandoah and Temple University. Within those years she maintained her singing career singing at such places as the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, Tenth Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, PA and was invited to sing as a guest soloist at many churches and wedding ceremonies around the Philadelphia area.
In 2003 she began belly dancing under the instruction of Valerie Rushmere at studio 1831.
She also has studied with Azhia at Koresh Dance studio in Phila. PA and Artemis from Baltimore MD.
In 2005 and 2007 she traveled to Cairo, Egypt to attend the Ahlan, Wa Sahlan Dance Festival in Cairo. While there she studied with renowned dancers such as Raqia Hassan, Dina, Kamal Naeem, Muhammad Shahin, Suhaila Salimpour, Nabile Mabrook, Momo Kadous and Farouk Moustafa. She also danced with the legondary Tabla player Khamis Hankish and his orchestra.
Her style and technique is a mixture of traditional Egyptian, Turkish, gypsy and a little North African flavor. She has stuied such dance forms as Hagala, Seidi, Turkish Romany (Gypsy) Dance, North African Nubian dance and traditional Egyptian.
Adalia has performed all over the Philadelphia area in such venues as konak restaurant, Fez restaurant, The Philadelphia Library, Community College of Phila., The International house and World Cafe Live. She also performed at Rakkasah East in Somerset NJ in 2004 & 2005 and has made special appearances in the Washington DC area.
Adalia along with many dancers all over the Deleware Valley and NJ have performed at "Belly Jam" & "Pop Raqs", two of the most popular local evets in the region.
